Referee of the year

Seamus Mc Gonigle

Winning the referees award for the first time, Seamus is entering into his sixth year as a referee. A native of Ballyshannon. He is currently based as a member of the Garda Siochanna in Castlefin and is resident in Letterkenny. He has made a quick progression through the refereeing ranks, recieving acclaim for his performance in refereeing ranks, recieving acclaim for his performance in refereeing his first Senior Championship final in 2000, having refereed finals at alllevels in the county including 2 Intermediate 1 Junior and last years Under 21 final.

He has also graduated to National League ranks, refereeing his first Inter County competitive match before Christmas in the NFL. At Ulster level he has covered an Ulster Minor League Final and has regularly officiated at Minor and Under 21 Championship matches.

In his playing career he has won Under Age medals with Aodh Ruadh and an Ulster Colleges Medal with De La Salle College. Prior to returning to Aodh Ruadh, Seamus was a member of the Naomh Padraig Club in Lifford, being instrumental in reforming the Club in the early nineties while stationed in the area. Aged 35 he is married to Marie and has one daughter Caoimhe.
